Eaton’s College/Carlu Entry off Yonge Street 1953 vs 2018

Built on the southwest corner of College & Yonge Street, Eaton’s was constructed between 1928 and 1930. The unfortunate onset of the Great Depression caused the cancelation the 40 storey skyscraper in the original plans.

The Eaton’s Auditorium was opened to the public in 1931. Designed by French architect Jacque Carlu.

In 1977 Eaton’s moved it’s operations south to the new Eaton’s Centre. The location was then sold and renamed College Park. After delays the theatre was restored and renamed the Carlu in honor of it’s designer. It reopened in 2003.
